The eBay Life "Score of the Day" is a Marcato pasta maker purchased for a few dollars and sold for...

Sunday was a very sad day.  One of my idols, Jack Lalanne, left this earth for a better place.  He was 96 years young.

Jack was a macho Richard Simmons.  A pint-sized Superman.  The Tony Robbins of the fitness world.  He practiced what he preached, and for that, he was admired.

Which brings me to today's topic.......

We've always wanted a Thule rack.  Thule racks are roof racks most often seen atop the cars of young, hip families and outdoor enthusiasts.  Actually, it wasn't the rack we were interested in but the cargo box that fits on the rack.  Having a Thule cargo box is like having an extra trunk  We thought it would be great to have one on  long-distance buying trips. There was only one problem -- the price.  When all is said and done, these boxes run about $500 a pop ....and that wasn't gonna happen.

This blog is called The eBay Life and, like Jack Lalanne, I try to practice what I preach.  We're green and we're cheap, so instead of buying a new one, we decided to wait for a bargain to come along.

We thought we were on our way to Thuledom while in Portland, Oregon, last summer.  A friend of ours told us about a store called Rerack. Rerack sells preowned roof accessories.   Unfortunately, they were fresh out of product the day we visited the shop, and we went home disappointed.

But eventually it happened.  One day, as were driving by a used car lot on our way to a yard sale, we saw exactly what we were looking for.  Hanging out atop a beat down mini van was a perfectly good Thule cargo box.  It didn't exactly match the car it was on, but it definitely matched ours!  We screeched on the breaks and turned around.

Using our supersonic powers of negotiation, we convinced the owner of the lot to sell it to us for $100. But there was a problem -- he didn't have the key.   Luckily, he was able to drill out the lock, and we ordered a new one from the manufacturer for only $20.  A Thule cargo carrier that matched our car for the bargain price of  $120?  Now that's more like it!  I would have felt very, very guilty purchasing a new one at the local outdoor store.  Take it from Jack. You've gotta practice what you preach.

So how have your sales been?  Our sales have been good.  Sales have been very good, and we've been scoring quite a bit.  Lately, we have sold a number of Marcato pasta makers.  These pasta machines are hot on eBay!  Always pick them up at yard sales.  The following pasta maker was purchased for a few dollars and eventually sold at auction for......

$56!!!!!
