The eBay Life "Score of the Day" is a Kongtime Dogopolis doggie daycare system purchased for $1 and sold for.....

Watching the news is making me shiver.  Apparently, some areas of the country are covered in snow.  I wouldn’t last long in one of those snowy states because I don’t own a coat.  I don't like them.  They’re bulky, and having to wear one means it’s cold outside….and I don’t like cold.

That’s one of the reasons I no longer live in DC.  I liked DC, but I hated the weather.  It’s interesting because I lived there for more than two years, and I don't remember ever wearing a coat.  If I did, it must have been pretty lightweight because when I hopped on the plane to move back to California, everything I owned fit into a couple of suitcases.

You might be wondering how I survived living in our nation’s capital without owning the proper outerwear.   Well, the Metro, underground shopping malls, and cheap cabs made avoiding the elements relatively easy.

By the way, coats and jackets are very popular on eBay.  We sold quite a few this week. Jackets made by North Face, Patagonia, and REI are always hot.  Columbia is another brand to look out for  --but Columbia jackets have a low resale value, so be sure not to pay too much for them.  Remember:  Just because a product sells for a lot in the stores doesn’t mean it’s worth much on eBay.

Another area of outerwear you might want to explore is leather jackets. Here's one I sold a few months ago.  It was a western-themed jacket made by Chicos, and it only cost me a few bucks.  It was very nice and went for $46!

I’ve sold quite a few contemporary and vintage leather jackets over the years, and when it comes to leather, the funkier the better.

Speaking of funky…..

Last summer we went to a yard sale on a very, very hot day.  All of a sudden, there it was -- the most amazing down jacket in North America.

According to the ladies hosting the sale, the owner of the jacket had purchased it on a trip to Alaska.  It was the thickest jacket I'd ever seen and very versatile -- perfect for snowstorms or a night out on the town.  We bought it for a few dollars and were confident that we would eventually find that special someone who was looking for something truly unique.  Because I didn’t recognize the brand, and I knew I would have to wait for the right buyer to come along, I listed it at a fixed price of $49.99 or best offer.  It sat in my store for quite a while, but a few weeks ago I sold it for $35 -- not bad and we were happy to find it a good home.

Outerwear from the past is also fun to sell.  Just because Nordstrom no longer carries ski jackets with elastic waistbands ala the ‘80s, doesn’t mean there aren’t people out there looking for them.  For example, check out this vintage down jacket from North Face.  I recently sold it for $20 even though it had a stained collar.

Here's an example of something we came across at the local Salvation Army a few weeks ago........

A three-in-one ski outfit!  I can't believe they don't make them anymore.  Pure genius.

So if you're wondering what to sell on eBay in 2011, don't overlook outerwear!  It's easy to find and relatively inexpensive to purchase.

And now for the "Score of the Day".....

A few months ago, Niko's mom picked up a super cool Kongtime Dogopolis doggie daycare unit for $1. She didn't really know what it was, but it certainly looked interesting.  Turns out that this is a very popular device that systematically entertains dogs all day long by throwing out Kong "toys" on a rotating schedule.  These toys are filled with food.

Rumor has it, the company got into trouble for using the term "Kong," and the device is now very hard to find.  I guess "Kong" is too close to "King Kong."  Something like that.

So we did some research and were quite shocked to find out that people are in love with this thing.  We listed it at a fixed price and it sold for..............

$150.  Wow!!!

So be on the lookout for a Kongtime Dogopolis when you're out at the thrift shops.   If you find one, immediately jump for joy.
